In 2010, Village in Bloom members began replacing barrels on the Hull platform. Three raised beds were planted up at the far end of the platform. Again, the emphasis was on permanent planting.
In 2011, an ambitious project to replace further barrels with a replica train was completed. The train was constructed by Glynis and Alan Jenner from recycled materials donated by villagers or collected by ViB members.
The Replica Train on the Hull platform at Hutton Cranswick Station has been shortlisted for the ACoRP Community Rail Awards. The Association of Community Rail Partnerships devised the Community Rail Awards in 2005 so that ‘the unsung heroes and heroines of the community rail world would have their hard work and dedication publicly recognised and rewarded’. This year, Hutton Cranswick in Bloom decided to enter the Replica Train for the Small Projects Award (under £300). This is a new category for 2012 sponsored by ATOC (Association of Train Operating Companies) and East Coast. The Village in Bloom group are delighted that their entry is one of five projects shortlisted for the Award. Winners of the Awards will be announced at the Gala Dinner on Friday 28 September 2012 at the STEAM Railway Museum, Swindon – for further in formation, please visit www.acorp.uk.com.
